The bed and breakfast, situated in the heart of Moncton, or as I like to call it, the big little city, has been consecutively continuously in commission since 1991. I have been proprietor since June 2000. It is a century property, and very colossal. It was deemed to be a historical area, and has its own chronicles as well. It is therefore, under special dispensation and should it seem qualify for support, but then it doesn’t and herein lies the anecdote for the almost daily diatribe. ( I have heard the howls of indication of the lack, of late I will attempt to do better.)
Announced with fan fare every year, the heritage board, flies over with a sad-alight (true! ) and takes pictures to make comparisons, year to year. (if an application is made to build it is sent to heritage as well to keep ducks and the like in a row) to make sure we stay in lined up. The structure qualifies, the letter sent out, by the city engineer, backed up with meetings with city counselors, staff from the museum, and a board of people interested in such matters, for funding to help with keeping it in historical shape. ( I am now using my inheritance keeping it going but I digress. )
Yes it does. Or ought to. This correspondence in the post, stating all of the above. I phoned, the city engineer, you may recall, this story was just a little while back. The response from a city minion that she referred me to, was the appendage on the house, where the balcony resided “does not add value to the heritage significance” “Try the BID program.”
Thus pursuing as I have nothing else to do but walk Lucy, and eat bon bons, emails were sent, phone calls made. OFF we go for another goose chase. I had to pursue another woman, of great cognizance in her mind, at city hall. She had not informed moi, that a referral had been made to refuse me, by another man. Neither had bothered to let me know until I humiliated them by calling. I was thus informed, as this is a voluntary tax for improvement of business properties downtown, I can’t use it as I didn’t pay into it so no.
Boot camp, was something I have become proficient at. Out of doors, before the rain, for the start of the sixth season. First lake run. I ran it twice.. Actually ran by a Canada Goose, not 2 feet from me which may be the only good goose race there was recently.
“Happiness in this world, when it comes, comes incidentally. Make it the object of pursuit, and it leads us a wild-goose chase, and is never attained. Follow some other object, and very possibly we may find that we have caught happiness without dreaming of it.”
― Nathaniel Hawthorne Lucy and Moi
