Social media informed me, in the memories section, which is scary because without its help I would have been, amnesic. It told me that several years ago, I had typed “to warm up the house, I opened the door.” Way back four years ago in 2013 a high of 67 degrees. Accelerate forward, thru time and space, there is snow fall predicted in the daily weather report for tonight. Cold weather and minus temperatures today. The high? 7 and then the plunge. Yes snow is in the forecast a skiff, 2-5 cm tonight. I just had to tell you. I can’t tell if this is killing me or making me stronger. I blame my neighbors, he put his shovel away.
Yet another small bout of downsizing yesterday. The bag safely stowed in the trunk of La Tomato as I missed the cut off time for donations. Winter sweaters are also stored in baggage for the summer season. The list of life has tilted towards a new season. I have to declare, I was ready to rake, a long way from the rock and roll of my younger days. To get the grass going, the lawn. What has one got to do with another query the steady 41 dear and gentle readers of this blog? I found in the paint section of my basement, not one, but two, sacs of grass seed purchased on sale! I completely had forgotten I had purchased last fall. If you can recall those daily diatribes where I went on at length about feeding the birds.
Thus time marches on, and the snow has just melted, revealing the non biodegradable leftovers from Lucy. This chore got away from me, I know hard to believe. My defense? The second month of the year had temperature reductions, snow accumulations of frequent duration. As we tilt towards the sun, the gray green dingy grass complete with winter kill of yellow is revealed. The dead brown leaves, that were wept into the beds, frozen in place are coming loose. Along with other chores I am sure I have reported on, there are still autumn chores to be done, as they are now blowing in the back door, and they too are scooped up daily by MOI. The new patio, I am pleased to announce, has not heaved, but I have.
Thawing, temperature increases have and thus vanquished the snow, in an age old story. Tramping thru the muck, in a little anticipation I am because I do remember something, I know hard to believe. If one looks hard enough, coming to light are the tulips planted by the fences, around the yard, just in the sunlit places are possibly, coming to light. One season leads to another I have found, and for this hopefulness to happen, I plant a box or two, of every colour combination under the sun, every fall and now 178 years later, I have or hope to have a tulip festival in my back yard. There was a revolution at the garden center, and one brother has pull up stakes while the other keeps on. Imagine, a garden center, unhealed.
OFF I go this morning to get my eye balls analyzed, they seem to be steady, thank God,dess, but prior to all that, on the way there, need to purchase green exceptionable to recycling people lawn bags as I will be unfocused after the prodding and the pushing. The hardware store, having a price that was crazy and I forgot while at the drug store, purchasing new lipstick. We cannot stop the winter or the summer from coming. We cannot stop the spring or the fall or make them other than they are. They are gifts from the universe that we cannot refuse. But we can choose what we will contribute to life when each arrives.
