My Syrian family has sent over meals, after we have toured around and about in La Tomato. What to send back in the empty plates, bowls and saucers, in reply. The mom mentioned that she does not spice her food because of the kids, so I just used garlic and onions. Well, there is nothing more Canadian, than spaghetti.
Yesterday, I was asked to walk over to get the youngest from daycare with the middle two children. It was high alert as the day care providers, asking for secret codes, worried, about siblings and moi, former social worker, zipping up jackets and walking out. My Syrian family all ethnic and lovely, has sent over meals, for favors I have done, like guarding the children for 34 seconds while they ran in another direction.
When receiving a phone call, from the family one must take great liberties as to just what they are pronouncing. It is like charades on the phone. So the answer is always yes. Sometimes it is no, like the father wanting me to teach him how to drive in my car. That was a no. there are limits. Not many but that was one.
There is snow on the ground. It was a shock to me, let alone my tropical family across the street. Still is, the snow and the shock. The furnace came on that was a shock too. The tulips’ up and at it, are in shock as well. Shock is the word of the day it seems. Snow.
In truth, we were so convinced that spring was here, we suspended clothes and apparel out on the line, several days in row in fact. WHY why why, my dear and gentle readers ask? I had washed hung winter things, out on the line. They looked like Buddhist prayer flags, flapping away in the wind speed. Becaussssse it was spring, we thought with thoughts of sandals and shorts dancing in our heads.
OFF we went, full speed ahead, washing winter articles of clothing to put in the basement to absorb the dank fragrances, geminating from there, for the summer. We jinxed spring and I am so sorry. This is because with little thought I put my winterhatcoatsmitts and BOOTs away. Stood firm, yes without a doubt we did, even tho, and it has been, cold, windy too, to pull out the scarves at least. Will I ever learn. No probably not as hope springs eternal. HA.
I had a little dog visiting, well not so little physically. She was a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and golden, just sweet, I may have told you. I assured the grandmother, dog sitting that golden’s dig. Was quite laid back about it too. I had “not ever really done any landscaping in the backyard because of the propensity of golden to dig.” When they happy, sad or bored, similar you have to admit to overeating, but I digress. Well there was Lucy looking oh so cute, digging up the tulips. Celebrating out very brief spring fling! Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but of moments. Rose Kennedy, Lucy and Moi
