We are baking, in more ways than one. Apple cake in the wee hours of morning, couple with a banana bread, just to heat up the house. The humidex is something to behold, as the temperatures climb with the sun, day-after-day, regular as clock work. Hints of a downpour daily, but nothing yet. One island here in the province was on fire, and if it had not been surrounded with water, we would have been emulating our sister province out west.
The daytime was spent in true high season fashion, putting all the machines on, closing the windows and blinds, and hoping for the best. Sweating starts at 5:20 a.m and goes all day. Lucy liquefied in the backyard and refusing to go anywhere, as it is too blistering, stifling, and overheated these days.
I ran out of laundry soap, one asks how if you have been running the place for a million years, and we the readers of the diatribe for as many, DO THAT?
I fooled myself I acquired the last go round of purchasing, a 100 liter bottle, on sale! Unscented, and good for your skin type, At the grocery store.
When I did think of it, if I thought about it at all, I thought “that should last me a while.” You know and I know, how I LOVE TO TIME TRAVEL. And once again, here I am. Adding water to the bottle the size of a boat to make it thru the last load of the day at 5pm. The half load, as it just takes up valuable space in the machine and the clothes line for the next days on-slaughter.
I sent my right hand person to return, the scented ( I did it again, saw the size and the price and GRABBED.) boat or should say bottle, to the apothecary’s shop, I did not return any of the toilet paper, you will be pleased to know. (You know, the double rolls fooling you to think you had gotten MORE for the same price as single, in HUGE packages balanced precariously in ones cart, which btw do not fit in the trunk of La Tomato, once again I digress.) OFF to the food market and NOT on sale, purchased enough to keep me going for a minute or two, one hopes.
I had a call, saying they the new guests would not be arriving as they were sick where they were. I informed them if I could sell the room I would not charge them, and by the afternoon rush, was full again. I had by this point however put the wrong couple in the wrong room, and wisked the tallest man on earth into a tiny single bed. Two children arrived, 2 and 4 with parents and grandparents in tow. Another couple from Ireland via Ontario for the last 31 years, jovial as all get out, and resisted temptataion to send them off to the local Irish pub. When one must, one can.
