The predicament is lack of slumbering, resting, or sleeping, and you my dear and gentle readers know, with enough sleep you can accomplish anything. My excuse for the latest round of incoherence is the phone. It rings. Yes indeed, that is a problem. Sometimes too much, or not enough. This time of year it is the former, later in the year, the latter.
The tourists they are winging it. Let out of their cubicles off leash for two weeks, they run amuck, phoning to find a bed, usually having landed in a city after the sun has set and are astonished that the whole world has done the same thing. They think they are exceptional, distinctive, and unique in their wingy ways. (If they only knew.) The hotels, better equipped for the onslaught, are off loading, the inimitable down stream to a bed and breakfast.
“Never staid inn one before” declared, as the interment commences, while they bring in their baggage, emotional and otherwise. I explain they are “all dissimilar and some diverse.” (Mine especially so as I have turned off the TV and turned up fiber op. )It used to be that people perused leisure activity such as, books, but not any more. It seems just as you need to have a telephone book, the dinosaur of information, and paper cheques, you additionally, need computers going so fast, no one can keep up without staring at them all day, Currently events are seen thru the lenses of a camera, computer or device and reviewed at their desks when they get home. Or not. Hunting down not tourism points of interest, but invisible to the naked eye pokimans.
I have had a filament, of people staying longer periods of time, unusual for the tourism season, which is usually fillupandempty. So who are these folks my dear and gentle readers ask? A couple on their honeymoon, married 11 days, he a blacksmith, she a textile designer, preferred Moncton for their important sojourn. Asked “why” when the live close to the honeymoon capital of the world, Niagara Falls. The big little city, their response was, it looked “interesting and had lots to do.” They were off last night to a restaurant I have been meaning to get to for the last couple of years.
Another couple, from France, he a professor of geography, and she a researcher for medical equipement, married it seems for a longer time, years in fact, are here for four days. They park the wrong way on the street, with the by law officers seemingly looking the other way. Africans coming sometime soon, for seven days, preferring it seems my price over that of another kind of lodging, content to walk to the university for the conference they are attending.
The heavy rain kept all at home, snuggled inn. Making it impossible to get in the rooms. Why would I want to do that, to take the wet towels, straighten the sheets and otherwise, empty the garbage cans. Confiscating the bottles of water, whine and tipple. Bottles are now square, round, glass, plastic, all come with tops that have to be removed before standard operating procedures’ of throwing them down the back stairs for removal to the garage. This has become a source of income for me. I had a street person ring the doorbell at 7 in the morning, just after I had plugged the phones back in, so they could wake everyone as well, asking if I had any for their removal, It was a fight to the finish, let me tell you. “”Do not be in a hurry to succeed. What would you have to live for afterwards? Better make the horizon your goal; it will always be ahead of you. William Makepeace Thackeray, Lucy and Moi
