Preceding year was the winter of the snow, still talked about, and frequently. This winter of discontent is schizoid. Tomorrow, and we have not gotten there yet, let me preface it is going to +8 with rain. These yesterdazes have been days of red alerts ! Days as the wind-chill has us hovering in the -30s.
I was inn for delicacies, treats and calorific consumptions ! AND, AND, and affection, great wonder full and filled friendship !!! just what a lass needs ! As my former neighbors’ to the left, complete with ANNIE the little schmoozer dog, came for outing off the island. The kettle was ready. The table was set. OFF we went. Lunch was immediately supplied by them from a bakery, filled with cookies, squares, sugar cinnamon donuts. Instantaneously served I might say. I contributed a tiny slice of lemon bread as we set to demolishing calories. Then we were OFF! to the big box store that feeds you at the intersections’ of merchandises.
The parking was the first concern, as we scooted in beside the OVERSIZE, colossal propane tanks. People were lined up to fill so as to be to continue to barbeque in the winter months out of their garages, in parkas and mitts. Then the trek to meet everyone you knew that were there to taste test, finger and purchase. The carts were the size of my car. Now I have to say the calorie carnival continued. There were tastes of yogurt, tadszicikki, and macaroons. There were isles of detergents, dog foods, and debates about pennies per bag. There were gigantic, mammoth piles clothes, books and frozen food. With an army of employees to keep it folded, flipped, check on and out and most importantly paid for. Under the cover of membership I came away with a mere purchase of two flats of fish, enough to feed a family of five, eye drops and milk. Not the local brand, I usually am in possession of, but owned by a company in Italy, not indigenous item anywhere. Everything on sale! Deeply discounted and imported from China, Chile, and Cambodia.
Back we came for respite of the rigors, of shopping, to consume again, as that is what friends do, which if truth be known a taste of homemade whine, chattering, pattering and catching up since last we met. The dogs were walked at a fast pace down by the river, in the cold, cold cold. Then we set out to eat again, as that is what friends do. This time we ventured into spring rolls, and noodle territory.
Annie, threw up with regularity, her precursor to that was licking her lips. We the humans were doing it too and did not realize that she needed some ant acids and not to eat Lucy food. I then woke up in skin complaint, red rashed, hives, all spreading ONLY if you can imagine, from my fingers to my forearms. The list of ingredients from the weekend, was inspected. It was a good thing that the friends were here, to keep me grounded so I would not sore into outer space with apprehension. No fretting aloud. A friendship that like love is warm; A love like friendship, steady. Thomas Moore & Moi
