The nadir of the winter here in the big little city, half way thru a further month, for year 2016. It looks like, as we peer around the humble abode, all 5000 square feet of it, all is well. The furnace is roaring, tea is at hand. Out of doors, the spire of the cathedral is in place, standing guard over the street a couple of blocks over, the sky is sapphire, not a cloud in it thus making it cold, but not a flake to be had, at all. The temperatures are seasonal-2. Not an warning of weather anywhere to be seen.
I am, nevertheless disappointed to say, I have not attained the jackpot in the lotto. The last five bucks in my wallet was thrown at the lotto terminal. I uttered my mantra to inspire good fortune. OFF we went to the grocery store, purchasing what was certain to be a winner. Now habit has been to purchase the ticket at the pharmacy down the street that allows the dog inn. However to shake things up as the winter doldrums must be shaken, not stirred,( my luck with booze not being good either as we have seen in recent diatribes,) she was left to supervise the back seat of La Tomato, the car, while the dash was done. The suspense, and then days later the agony of defeat. If I did not have appalling luck I would have none at all. Or in this case neutral fortune. I have to write to you my dear and gentle readers of long standing, not even you win a play again ticket.
What pray would I occupy myself and time with ? Even though, I am doing what most people dream of doing, when they withdraw from work I have for many years developed, just in case Lady Luck shines “ the Substantial Victory Strategy.” EXTENSIVE plans for prize-winning.(what you cry and leave all this?) Every small business owner should have this exit strategy in their back pocket. Just in case. It helps a great deal to work this stargaze strategy out while and when you are making your 7845 bed or perhaps cleaning the bathrooms for the 13,206 time.. I could give up work. Bring to a halt effective hospitality ? (The Macpherson gene would rebel, not allow it. ! What a concept, Gordon rolling around in his grave and all that.) Board up the windows of the old bnb and head off, nay run OFF to Istanbul and rescue Golden Retrievers. (Lucy would not like THAT ! She would loose her solitary dog status.) Head off into the sunset in a Winnebago with the dog. Hire a sailor and drive a boat to way ward islands ? Behold, consider, further than and afar……. YES and additional things that only money can buy.
The huge reservations inquiries are coming inn. The four adults/ five kids variety. Are you pet friendly type. They of course are no-nonsense kind of people, knowing that the high holiday in August is not the time to wing it and bring Rover. Who is only a well trained black lab of 95 pounds. Given it is the quiet time of year for the welcome and warmth trade, they have lots of choice. They have shot gunned 234 emails to all and sundry. When you reply they are not really clear just which establishment they are corresponding with. One spends time writing lovely emails’ only to be told, we found better, cheaper, lovelier than you.
