I restored a bowl, after having eaten my supper. Trotted over and across the street to the neighbors in the black duplex, while they had theirs. ( I had forgotten their pre- Ramadan meal schedule.) Before I could leave, the Syrians’ not take no for an answer, insisted I say, heaping plates of food in front of me, thus I forced to and fed more. We discussed complete proteins, in bulgur and lentil mix. Two salads, one green and the other tomato and onion, my neighbors, persisted I taste with it.
We moved to the living room, there I got dessert, a cornmeal and honey cake with almonds. All this to get a pan I had taken apple cake to them. They were proud of the fact, they had 40 people over the celebration of Eid. Three days of feasting after the fasting of Ramadan. I don’t think I know that many or could invite them. While sitting waiting for dessert, they showed me in the Quran the passages about their Prophet, John the Baptist. Who I believe is one of ours.
Why I escaped with only a few calories inn is that I needed the pan to as I had delivered to me by a Jewish lady, frozen Challah bread, which is currently defrosting to bake for breakfast. I am defrosting an extra loaf for my neighbors’ in the yellow house. Who knew the big little city was so sophisticated and cosmopolitan. ??
The sun glowed and gleamed, just like the furniture after a good polishing, The temperatures’ rose. Thunder shows were brief, and later in the day. House was cleaned, and the list of life, roared thru at its usual speed, and I have to say alacrity.
Inquires for reservations were steady, two seniors looking for ground floor accommodations, my mother, and friend from Seattle all in the reservation book, and more importantly in the computer. Confirmation of fiber op appointments’ need to go in as well.
Today we go to 80/27. Lucy had a brisk drive in air conditioned comfort and a quick trip to pick up her vitamins at her favorite place, the pharmacy.
My cell phone was not working, OFF we went to get it fixed. I had apparently forgotten to turn it on. Saved myself purchasing a new one.“I have always been caught by the pull of the unremarkable, by the easily missed, infinitely nourishing beauty of the mundane.”
