The archetypal breakfast of French Toast, and all the accouterments, including homemade banana bread, (currently in the oven) for most of the guests this morning is set for, seven a.m. It is a very groovy thing I can make all of it with my eyes firmly shut. I am sure they are up and demanding to be fed at such an ungodly hour, to make haste, off to greet the day, at the local tourism attractions, to do and attend the tides. I am sure my day will be concluded before it’s commencement.
The doorbell rang which is a strange occurrence these days. (Ordinarily I am lurking about the computer to get reservations. Not flooding inn, but coming along.) Parents with a 16 year old daughter are in residence in two rooms are from Germany. The daughter, here to learn English on at a university, the alma mater of an emeritus prime minister on an island famous for its Gaelic heritage. First down was the dad to take bags to the car as an excuse to smoke. (that is another habit that seems to be decreasing these days as well.)
On board, from up the road a bit, within the province, a military man, and his nurse wife who came in and immediately went to sleep. Please note not a nap, as she has been pulling night shift in palliative care in the local hospital. Her menopausal symptoms should decrease in retirement, two years hence. There is then yet another from area code 780 out west. They are retired and making the most of it, traveling in their car across the county to land on the island an hour away and across the bridge, for three weeks to stay with friends.
Back to boot camp I went, determined to make it. (in more ways than one.) I was spotty in attendance, I have to admit with the flood, petulance and plague situation. It was a fund raiser for a girls basketball team, on their way to the other side of the country to the next level of play. It was a boot camp of old, hills and dales, crunches, and lunges. In a teams of three with totals of 150, 240 and the like. My thighs will never be the same, truly however it is my mind that I worry about.
Lucy continues to astonish. She is still here and still going, just like her female human parent. We don’t go far, but the determination has not waned.
The list of chores to be paid for is coming to fruition, the toilet tinkling is to be examined supposedly first thing this morning. I have him beat by hours, let me tell you. (once again I have it seems.) “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.” ~ Jim Rohn & Moi
