JUST when you think it is under control, and I like to try let me tell you. Trying is the operative word. It goes sideways. What happened! my dear and gentle ask! Try to keep up. I can barely understand it.
I have a website for the little bed and breakfast. The blog is attached to it and one can subscribe, if you have not already done so. I have a guy who supports that. He announces via Facebook he is going on holidays this weekend as it is a long weekend. I wave my hanky at it, thinking all is well. Just a little nervous.
I have had to update my operating system as the computer is just about as old as I am, went the way of the dodo.I have another guy to support the computer systems. Neither have anything to do with each other, but I have learned over the years, just what each of their job descriptions are. He is wonderful too. I think he is staying in town this weekend, but he has not let know.
Attached to my website, I have with the province a reservation system named after a fast rabbit. I have on speed dial the woman, named after the month of April, who is in charge of me for that. So far so good?
I am on the big search engines for accommodations, of which there are two majors. Booking.com. The other is Expedia.com which owns 1890, basically, all the other ones. Each have their own ways of doing things. Quelle surprise. I also have a guy, a broker from Montreal who represents the airlines. He too has a way of doing things. All his clients want individual bathrooms, I provide bathrobes.
Because I had three reservation systems that had to manually loaded into my book, which is paper. There were overbookings. Consequently, I got a reservation system for my reservation systems from France. Xoteila. To get that I had to join a search engine, for bed and breakfasts, bbcanada.com which is the fourth reservation system for five rooms. To receive a discount of $15 for that I am with the bed and breakfast association for the province.
The bed and breakfast association has a website, which the rabbit goes thru to allow the guest’s that use website to make reservations. That is now defunct, as it was allowed to go dormant as no one paid for the domain name for a period of time. The old domain name is now being used in Australia. Thus they had to scramble to get a new domain name, and then get it up. To date not sure if this has been done.
The rabbit system tried to link to the old domain name. I found out it was not this morning working. How long for one can only guess. I had to hand load before the French system was implemented all the reservations and did so. Then in came the new ones, or so I thought. I had to go back with my own reservation and manfully load the incoming from my own site.
As I said, I thought I was in control, HA!. Should have known better. This morning, one reservation snuck in while I was sleeping. Consequently revealing the above news. There is a circus in town at the university, a long weekend, the construction holiday in Québec ( where the province shuts down for two weeks), Thus another kind of circus is about to start. Have been full to the brim for 6 months.
Thus, I have had to write my cyber world, ask that they reconnect the new domain named association website, with my rabbit reservation system ( which was very adequate when I started, many years ago,) hooked up again by special order “front loaded” by the search engine for the bed and breakfasts and they talk with France.
Not finished yet, phone and email, all day until I speak with the not to be client to tell them there is no room at in the inn, or BED AND BREAKFAST in this case. O have done so. There was no answer. It is going to be hot and humid. There will be calls and emails all day for rooms that I do not have as well.
The wandering revealed emails, the rabbit reservations system, that had not gone to France and back. Some had been cancelled and some were not. AND my new to me emailing system found receipts for business people it had not sent. On top of all that a credit card number that was invalid, a hue and cry started and finished, for that with the guest departed. And is solved. All this for ease and speed of delivery systems. It is 10 a.m.
