Just as one reservation would come inn another would cancel. That would go on all day. Finally people resorted to calling. I went to walk Lucy and had not unplugged the phone. There were and had five phone calls of inquiry listed. This is not counting the one every five minutes I did answer, thinking I might get some bookings for another night. No if I had had 2,340 rooms last night I could have filled up twice, in both official languages.
Thru out the day I kept up, thinking that my reservation system website was up to day. Found out no it was not. This is the middle of the summer, why not, at the height of the holidays blitz. Zero to full and back again, and again and again. Had a good run of guests to fill up the exchequer Then the reservation muddle had people at the door, thinking they had scored a room, while others had not, and they too had not.
Doorbell ringing, whilst I brought in the last of the guests, having benefited from a cancellation of a broken motorcycle person. The mother daughter combo, from the big grapefruit of North America via Russia, This brought the total of the house to three Quebecois, couples mostly, motorcycles in the garage and cars on the street and a young couple from Nova Scotia. I also flipped rooms around, placing an older couple in twin beds and this couple in a double. They did not even know. Neighbors letting me know they are away, while I was dancing around to a beat of a different drummer.
All this started as the ground was hit, at the 5:30 launch to the day just as the sun just starting its intro to the day. The day and moi did not stop, cleaning, guests, breakfast, the phone, the groceries. “The usual” proceedings and events written here in the daily diatribe, in detail for years. Since the gremlins had stolen the apple juice, I made fruit salad. Thoughts were that the tall young teenagers, would eat bowls of it. The first sitting for breakfast whizzed thru it. That table spoke French, then another round of toast, dipped in eggs and cream switched to English. The girls, did not touch it, not one bite, as I threw can of the sugary fruit into a bowl, floor thus making the list of chores longer I am afraid to report. I pretended I had made it before they came down. The banana bread got a beating, as did some muffins bought for the occasion. Every single one, sheets, facecloth and towels, hand and bath went thru the wash. The girls wondering why the towels were hard. Hung to dry in the great out of doors.
Thinking I was a day a head of myself I went to purchase $89 worth of ice-cream (and other items but the ice cream was the draw at the back of the store!) It was on sale and cheaper than purchasing one single cone. I came home with a carton of “mudslide” and proceeded to eat too much of the soft, rich, creamy delight. All and every new years resolutions very forgotten. “”You can pour melted ice cream on regular ice cream. It’s like a sauce! Chris Pratt Moi and Lucy P
So so busy! You definitely deserved an ice cream treat 🙂
