June 02, 2016

Sitting down to write to you, my dear and gentle readers, I recalled it was the anniversary. Yes indeed, what a ride ! kind of day. The anniversary of acquiring the bed and breakfast, on June 01, 2000. Moved in with a suitcase, cat and dog. Murphy the Road Scholar from Little Shemouge. He up and disappeared for three days, lucky him. Libby, her name, short for Liberation from the S.P.C.A. was the very best golden retriever, was with us, way back then. The car was called Grasshopper. My first guest was Japanese. I would start writing the diatribe in another five years. ON PAPER~ thru the mail. There has been a lot of water under the bridge as they say. Or in my case precipitation. A hot topic if ever their was one in the daily diatribe. That and recycling day, the anchor of the week for MOI.

The anniversary day was completely unremarkable come to think of it. (NOT the day some 16 years ago believe me) Started the daylight hours in shorts, ending in long pants. Believing, I really don’t know why I do this, that June is a summer month. Is it a rhetorical question if ever I heard one.  I think its just hope, peeking thru mixed in the mud of expectation and anticipation. You know, optimism, things will get better disposition. Toggling the list of life from shoveling to mowing. It has been an ungainly toddling of seasons, but always is, come to think of it. ALWAYS alwaysalways assuming summer will come. The whole 8 weeks of it. AND here we are again, watching the lawn grow, or hoping it will in my case, the leaves bud and allergies blossom.

You know and I know, that some days are first-rate, some minutes, seconds, unmatched in goodness! Moments that are over in a jiffy, that change the way you look at THAT time. Moments march on. One can attribute to them, up or down, angry or sad. You look back and say ahhh right, that is when it went left or right. Yes just then. An uplifting occasion, say when a child is born, a puppy acquired. Then there are days, dreadful, down write appalling days. Periods certified and approved, of that time, spent like fast flowing currency out of yer wallet. Leaving one wondering where both went in the rush. Then there are the pushing the bold-er up hill kind of day, when will this end periods.  Difficult to change the feelings, when you have a say root canal or a mammogram ahead of you. Maybe it got downgraded to a grit yer teeth kind of day. Days when you cannot change the height requirements, age or weight either.

Then it is the moment when you take off the tight clothes, climb into your jammies, flannette being very popular choice here, take yer teddy and climb into clean sheets, having done something right in the day. Tucked into your corner of the universe, and sleep comes.

You know, you just know, that today when you open your eyes will be better and in fact it is. Here we go for a quiet day of cool sunlight, watching the tulips in all their glory, another thing I did right last fall. OFF you go too, let me know how it went, swiftly or slow, will you, did you get to get a whiff of the plant life? will you? Love to each and everyone of you. I carry you close to my heart. Thanks for reading.

“Strange as it may seem, I still hope for the best, even though the best, like an interesting piece of mail, so rarely arrives, and even when it does it can be lost so easily.”
