Summer solstice, temperatures climbing to 30 or a high of 78 degrees, take yer pick, here in Canada, we are officially bilingual especially in weather, Celsius and Fahrenheit.
With predictions of sunny AND warm OFF we went to celebrate Fathers Day. Yes, indeed, went to the beach, in the morning, an occupation that my parents both enjoyed. (Mom still does and is chomping at the bit to visit this summer) Lucy, spaghetti eating golden retriever of some repute, loves to swim, accompanied MOI in La Tomato. ( Red Toyota of the same reputation.) We spent more time driving to and back, than wandering in the waves. The old girl letting me know just how much she could handle. Supplementary sand in the car to complement La T pathetically filthy interior. One day, soon one supposes, it will get cleaned, and it will stay that way.
Upon our return, Lucy hopped out of the car, went to the hose that was not there yet.
I had forgotten, the operating procedures’ for the beach and had not hooked up the hose, or put the towels out or shampoo before leaving. (She gets un-sanded with the hose.) The water in both cases being very cold indeed.
Dad would be swollen with pride on fathers day, (he would have been 96 a few days ago) I wended my way thru a book written by a liberal journalist on a conservative BIG C prime Minster. Completed a volume, a 400 page straightforward analysis and in a journalistic style making it easy to read. ( I had made a prediction the night before the last election, about the next party in power not being able to change the right of center legacy. This author agreed with me…..I thought that would be because of the decline of the buying power/taxation of the middle class, here in Canada. my supposition was, with steep increase in middle class in other lands making the fiscal decline of ours. Thus making it impossible to money big projects, No, amuchmore sophisticated (not something I can claim to be) brainchild that the author put forth, assumed that the tax cuts will not be increased by liberals, nor will they re-do federal provincial relations, the law and order agenda, (“if elected I promise to be easier on sex offenders!’) or immigration reforms, nor trade ties he signed (34 in total ). How is that for fun reading for the start of a new week ! I promise to return to romantic readings almost immediately.
There you have it, Returning to home base, while on the highway, received a call to say there had been a reservation, “could they give me their credit card.?? Well yes! We are full for one night in July. Hurray. Leisurely start to the season is an understatement.
