This day holds a peculiar place in my heart, not only because the patron saint is celebrated in my native province. It is also the day, 12 !!! years ago, I went to fetch (here girl!) the divine Miss Lucy Patricia. Her name was the only thing she knew, so Lucy is was. We had contemplated Kayla which means beautiful in Hellenic language.

Thus she is a dog with a hyphenated name. My mother name is Lorna Patricia, my cousin is named after my mother, and a dear friend, is named as well for her. Thus she is a dog with a hyphenated name. We also it also seemed to have flowed with the L’s Linda, Lucy, Lorna, and beloved Libby. Many of you have followed her exploits thru the years as I ran, scrabbled, scribbled, shouted, pulled, begged, cried, laughed and hollered at her, then thru the pages of the diatribe. What a cherished thing she is too . I would come to find out have many things to learn, like everything. So OFF we went for fun and adventure.

Today we were up and at it, Lucy eupnoeic at my feet, while I made apple cake, put beans in the oven, eyeballed the cream, loaded laundry, unloaded the dishwasher, loaded it back up again, had a shower, emptied the dishwasher and generally got the kitchen to rights, before my second cup of very strong tea. We have a couple from area code 780, who when given the tour of the house, could not see a thing, it looks to rights.

Summer would not be the same without sleep inturuptus. I told myself to unplug the phone, did not and was not completely flabbergasted when the call came to get me up. I had two attempts to get into REM mode. Just after I had fallen back to sleep from the telephone, the above mentioned guests returning from the recommended Indian meal to place the leftovers in the fridge to be forgotten when they leave this morning.

The duct that I feared may have been full of gyp rock dust, was not, there did appear to be a dog hair however. It took two attempts to set to rights, as I did not know the arrival time of the help. The second attempt I was at coffee listening to the drama of neighboors, a relief to head home to mine.

It also would be ill advised to get the hedge clippers out, as reality retreated, it seems. So that did not get done, nor much of anything else. I had another sojourn between the sheets yesterday, of 24 hours to catch up on myself. We walked down by the river, and to top of the day from Lucy P perspective, went to get cookies at the pharmacy, where she laid down in the middle of the store and stayed there while I did not shop. The laundry detergent sought after and soon in desperation, was a brand that not only sends me sneezing, but make me itchy as well.

The official start to the 2017 season, bleary-eyed and world weary, before it commences, OFF we go, for a folly fest and venture.

Where ignorance is bliss, ‘Tis folly to be wise,” poet Thomas Gray. Moi and Miss Lucy Patricia.
