Another day in position for lift off. Since the desk has been turned on the advice of my decorator, I can’t see the spire or the street on which we reside. I have to twist then shout about the weather and street scape. Both seems to be in place. A very ordinary day out there. But stay tuned that could change, as my long time readers know and I can pontificate about. We had a bit of snow, just a dusting, nothing dramatic and in fact may be recovering from petsly. (post enormous traumatic snows of last year.)
The car, the loyal La Tomato, is encumbered with books and blankets. In one of the boxes mom sent me, were not one, not two but three books on the Royal family. Three of them when Princess Anne was considered hot. Also a saw. Candles and hankies. Wait, wait !my dear and gentle readers cry !! A SAW?
Yes, a hand crafted, painted picture of the center of the universe. The farm on a hill. Mom was thrilled thinking that the historic and familiar, to say heritage saw was found. How it got into the box of blankets is one for the history books.
So another round of systematizing went on, and up out of the boxes shipped especially to moi, came the blankets made by my fathers mother on their way to the Lupin Fair. A quilt show in July. These utilitarian covers are made from left over materials that were recycled, as a way of life, in the 1960s. My uncle recognized his tie.
Then what to do with the saw, that was so cherished. (never used for the express purpose for what it was constructed no it is a familiar historical piece, waiting for the grandchildren to recognize its value) ) We pondered, we mulled, as when it was offered to whence, the new occupants of the farm, it came my mater rejected the mere thought of it. We meandered and wandered, thru muddle and the mess, in the basement in hopes of finding a box that would hold the beast. And did~ found one ! that used to hold a gardening claw, in the back in the corner in the dark. In went the saw, LITTLE BULGE at the end of the box, but nothin serious. Brown paper packaging tied up with tape, these are a few of my favorite things, (apologies to the sound of music song) OFF off we went to the post office to mail it back to my mother, who loves it. AND it happens it will be her 92nd birthday soon. If it gets past safety measures, she might get it in time. Lucy got her walk to the post office and cookies, so all was well. ONTO a biography of Loretta Young. She if you did not know had Clarke Gables love child, in the 1930s. A woman with organizing skills can run a construction company without ever picking up a hammer and nail. Warren Farrell. Lucy et Moi
