March 21, 2018 Blogging is done.
Done like dinner, the blogging course is gone, ding dong. I of course did not fit into any mold, and broke it. I have to admit I did not do well at all. First of all, there was technology, it makes me feel stupid. Really block-headed, I hate that feeling. There was assumption, that one knows how to turn on a computer.
Remember back, before I left the big little city, I purchased Gary Herbert, named after my insurance agent of some repute. I did not know how to turn him on.(that is another story for another time.) I packed him in a bag and dragged him with me to the construction zone I am living in. With an old dog. Very old.
The teacher taught, but to a level well beyond my capabilities. Bringing up visions of ADHD and bag of negative tricks, I am not one bit further ahead…..but I have taped into my book of passwords, that all us foggies have, a quote. (Some of my long time readers, and there are not many of them left, having changed URLS and what have you. Then you all having to sign up again. I don’t know how to direct you to that either, but once again I digress)
The quote I am lugging around this morning, after finding out my grade, which was not unexpected, but still hurts, and I am not sure just what the pass mark is. The quote Linda get to the quote. “Even the biggest mistake beats the hell out of even trying.”
I tried. One of my blogs for class was about “my good enough,” find your good enough. I did not even get to that bar. However, the final presentation, which was the last class, I rounded out the lack of technology with advice. Something I am very good at, whether anyone listens, and you my 23 readers take heed of I am not sure of.
What I did learn was from a whiz kid, destined for the far reaches of the comic universe. (that would be stand up comic) I learned to copy, but that was from a youngster in the big little city, and from the whiz, all eyes upon the page in bated breathe, I learned to copy. Yes indeed, ctrl and c. Ctrl for the uninitiated is, short for control and c is the 3rd letter in the alphabet, fifth in the second line of keys on the computer. Lots of time money and effort went into learning that concept.
What I was truly impressed with is the cognitive content these kids have come up with the seemingly effortless efforts while they zoom thru their lives. One child admitted to me, she was born the year I graduated from Concordia. Talent in every pore. Crazy ideas springing from out of who know where, their fingers dash out easygoing prose. There was not one discussion of mortgage payments, capital gains, or marriage, they were unrepentant in their lack of religious beliefs more likely to believe in science fixation. They discussed love, they had been in great depth, and were non plussed about same sex partners. Which is only one or two generations from real dire consequences.
Movies were huge discussions and books a faint faint plot point. The loved movies about comic book characters. They had phones, and tablets all on the go in class, but knew how to operate and we still used paper and pens. We were required in this high teck age to bring copies of our work, on paper for critques. These young, or so young, were thoughtful and kind in their critiques of their peers work. There is hope for many of them have not known despair.
One more giant piece of work for the other class, then I am done with this aspect of my life.
Computers don’t create computer animation any more than a pencil creates pencil animation. What creates computer animation is the artist. John Lasseter Moi and Miss Lucy P
