We got off painlessly, this time, here in the big little city. I was equivalent to a junkie in thought all day long. “Should I shouldn’t I, maybe, do, don’t I NEED TO.” The voice of reason, lost in the cavern in my head. The gates to the cavern, clanked shut. OFF I went as I could not help myself, to the grocery store. We were to have a blizzard.
RED alerts, schools closing, friends on Facebook on the other side of the country flying in at midnight to add to the anxiety. Necessary items were needed to keep cortical steroids from flowing freely. I needed, in other words to purchase food. I had a fridge full but needed the equivalent of “storm chips.” I purchased baked goods, an atmospheric phenomenon cake. I also went to the library, that is not as large or calorie filled.
Admitting, is the first line of recovery. I have been told. OFF I went to Boot Camp. In the changing room, ran into one of the newbies, tall, slim, and oh so young, very young. With a shy, and there are not many shy bones in my body, I offered, just a bit of confidential information. I hinted at possibly, maybe, could be, to the potential of all those calories in the kitchen, waiting. Or not.
What I said was, when trying to make up my mind, extra calories are necessary, required in fact in the form of fat & sugar. In short, again not another attribute attributed to me usually. “I eat when stressed.”
You may or may not have noticed but I love boot camp. Not for the burpees but for the banter, wittiness and untendentiousness. One of the long time girls, admitted to while cleaning up from Christmas, “ate a whole tray of Turtles to get rid of them” while she put the decorations away, so “they would not temp her.” Some people say I am unhinged. I prefer the term. “Happy with Benefits.”
Another fellow just recently made pea soup. Soup being his diet aide of choice. He used coconut oil, as the base, because it is supposed to be good for you. He set his arm hair on fire. Coconut oil is the first ingredient in napalm by the way. I tried to emulate his soup efforts, searching for as I had a chicken carcass in the fridge for, bullion cubes. Thus, discovered much to my dismay, that my all vegetable bullion cubes, MSG free, used for centuries in my soup making are no longer sold in the grocery store near me. A veritable blow to my culinary skills. I digress yet again.
Well this full-length svelte, youthful, (did I mention that?) woman, there are several of them, all getting married. They look alike too, and in my fog of grey-haired age, get them mixed up. Personally, I think they were twins at birth and separated, but I deviate again. We bring up the fact of “storm chips” and the need to have them to navigate the storm.
She says, oh to be this young without guile, that at the mega store she shops at, they have a not one, but two kilo bag of yum yum chips. Let me remind the readership a kilo is 2.2 pounds. I cannot envisage how she gets it in the trolley. I yelped about how did they manage? “Do they do not go stale once opened?” I cried. She freely admitted that there are usually none left. Why she comes to boot camp. Yum Yum brand was sold once upon a time, in my youth, at the coroner store for in five cent bags. They did in fact fit in your hand.
After I was snuggled in and had done watching a movie (inspirational! training for iron man contest) and ingestion of calories purchased, there was a change from “Blizzard warning to Blowing snow advisory.” which my Facebook friend did not get until she was home upcountry. safe and sound
Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie. Jim Davis MOI and Miss Lucy P
