May 04, 2016

The stuttering start to the 2016 season, was in fact, a classic and characteristic, long term readers of the daily diatribe will note (approximately daily, in recent weeks. We are with the intention of daily, and almost back on track.)

The Gordon gene won. OFF to fertilize the lawn, with organic not a phosphate it in, because of the rain, so I don’t have to water it…..made the list of life, and checked off for the day. Continuing before that and therefore, had already, cleaned the first floor, did the bathrooms, the dog had her pill, and after books back to library, and watched while they checked them back in, as previously they lost the returns. Lucy was exhausted from the wet and cold city walk. We did not go out again, until much later, after dark to met and greet the neighbors on their nightly ritual with his dog .

There we were on the couch, the snow fort blankets close at hand, as we had turned off the heat, but turned it back on again, as we were expecting, wait for it GUESTS. Two of them, in Room #3. That would be the room with twin beds. The gentlemen from Québec and France approximated the time they would be arriving. 8-9 pm. I wondered if they remembered the time change, thinking that everyone does, (NOT) and proceeded not mention that at the border, be it international or provincial there is time traveling involved. Well past that time, they indicated, more like a couple of hours later, sorry we will be late email arrived. Arriving at 11 pm their time, and 12 mine. They were not sure when they got here either, just what time zone they were in. Thus they were traveling on as most guests do, and would be as they were taking a ferry to an island deeded to la belle province, back to the time they came from. Lovely tall, young, and they all are now, Francophones.

We have to jump start the gray matter it seems, as you my dear and gentle reader looking inquiry at the screen. The alarm, which has not been set in a long period of time, I must admit, bleated at me. Thus came to discover the only muscle memory I have in my biceps, had, the most troubling of issues, which in my defense was pre caffeination, (post as well if truth be told, I hasten to add.) I forgot, yes failed to remember two of the standard operating recipes.

Not one, but two, the banana bread recipe…..we walk unsteadily, to the recipe books, searching for the reading glasses so necessary now to the, I know, very old fashioned hand written card (written in my mothers hand 25 years ago) Frowned at it, waiting for the ability to read, heck, anything to kick in, including my bake, it seems. Then and this is disconcerting and distressing, as I have not written this formula down in a while, the recipe for French toast. Let me assure, I hemmed and hawed, but all is on the grill, awaiting for the them to ascend.

They are OFF to a conference on sustainability, and replaced in few days with two rooms. Almost a rush! This may or may not cover the bills that were left in the mail box, water and electrify both in these modern times a necessity. What is that old expression, in one hand and out the other. “Some people read palms to tell your future, but I read hands to tell your past. Each scar makes a story worth telling. Each callused palm, each cracked knuckle is a missed punch or years in a factory.”
