Thus we set about again, soon to be 17 years June the first, on the job of self employ. Another pile of plenty on the table. French toast on the grill, banana bread, fruit salad, beans in maple syrup on the table. Showers on, people stirring (I use a hand held blender, they can stir I have to move!) Coffee in the pot, tea bags ready.
Yesterday couple from the Big Grapefruit who were here for two days OFF to Northern part of the province. They were a great help, pounding nails into walls as we moved lamps on the walls out of the way, and drawers back in place. We chatted, had conversations, discourses, giggled and chat and confabulated. They were retired at 53s. Goes to show what you can do if you plan. Then there was a couple both from France, but having a long distance relationship, he lived in New York and she an event planner in Paris. A short week and they are parted again, by the Atlantic Ocean.
All gone with replacements coming. A couple with the right of return with a preference for Room #4, away from the street noise. Many of long time readers may remember the boys in the hood, drinking on the roof across the street on every Saturday night in the summer for year. They have grown accustomed to the room and in they went. A call from yet another couple on the road, from the Big Grapefruit, and accommodated with “hot water and everything.” in the third floor, arriving a little late from their estimated time. But a phone call to let me know. The third came thru my newly fixed reservation system. They kindly came and got the key so I would not be greeting them after their sojourn to Monster trucks in the traditional pink bathrobe. The two year was off at 8 a.m to the park, and possibly the zoo and the drive home timed with his afternoon nap. Mine too.
The first of the year loads of laundry went out, and are drying in the wind and sun. Crisp but sunny, back door open to admit the first mosquitoes, flies and wasps. Floors washed, beds made, and a sit down before the vacuuming of the first floor. Credit cards all done. The inside of the microwave wiped down the lemon juice water steaming the and clean the inside recycled into another cleaning project.
The maples of which there are five on the property are shedding almost like snow, green bits that do not rake well, so I have to go and find a blowy machine I fear.
Thus the season in the sun, and there have been many commenced, quietly, to gather speed into the warmer months. Welcome back for the first time. “I’ll be here when you get back.”
