Oh dear, going to be “one of those days.” I realized that this month, the fifth is almost the sixth, but regardless, is almost departed. Moved on, typing the wrong day of the week, corrected myself. Finally then nearly projected the year to be one ahead. Here we go, locomotion, shake, shimmy, stumble.
I had guests. I know that seems a likely consequence to running an establishment such as this, but is has been slumberous since the early to mid fall, around turkey time, in that administrative division. The fight with a search engine, over a channel manager had been fought to the ground, a rear guard action was necessary. The big boys of reservations systems coming to the rescue. With support from my flyspeck team. It went on for months. However and therefore, for the minute, reservations now coming in at slower pace, but a gait.
We did I have to admit have a full house over the weekend and it was a shock to the system, I don’t know how I do it to be frank. But we did. Preparation is the key. Bought too many eggs, cream and apples. Then was given jumbo organic eggs, which make an omelet with just one. I did try but was a little early gassing up. I did not get my 5000 bonus points, short by $2,50. This is so I can get free food. Since I have never missed a meal yet it seems like a good deal to pay a two cents more to get $10 worth of groceries.
They ask MOI to answer surveys about customer satisfaction. I love doing this. I never get anything out of this, but satisfaction. Moi and the rolling stones. Rock stars have albums titled “unplugged” which one is lead to believe, means, unobstructed artistry, going beyond the norm. I admit often going beyond, however regular and typical, is nowadays remembering to unplug the phone at night. Yes the excitement of it all, as this is a nightly occurrence of someone “winging it” at 11pm or later, who thinks or does not, I can go all day and all night too. Not only do they call at that hour, they expect that I will tuck them in. This usually means that I greet them in my pink housecoat. Of which there are many stories in this diatribe, my dear and gentle readers can attest. Last night I slumbered like the assassinated. It was only this morning when I staggered to my feet, I noticed that I had missed a call at 11pm, having disregarded my own policy, to unplug.
We had people everywhere. Flipped bodies about after they had checked in one room. Mother daughter did in fact want the room with twin beds that I had offered when they made their reservation. The judge of fencing, and I don’t mean the backyard type was moved to another room. I wandered around waiting for her to return to tell her. She brought me a HUGE bag of rhubarb that was after it was cooked, onto the table. Then added to cakes with apples.
There were ladies who were having a weekend away. They negotiated for three days before their arrival. Clean up indicated they had a great time as it took a laundry basket to get the bottles down the stairs. I also found the washcloth they used to clean, but I had to lie flat on the floor. WHY? to scrub the hardwood clean of some sort of black sticky oily concoction on the floor they had not quite wiped up.
The weather of late is several degrees higher than the first of the year but not by much. We are still going of course, but the variance in temperatures is astonishing and the rain, and days of it. The tulips are UP, but my handy hound has dug out a patch so she can lie among them. Has she done this when there is a camera handy? No. Not often but just enough to have huge patches flowerless.
We are tripping over to the island once per week for her therapy, and yesterday it seemed to be working. Her hips are like knitting needles when she walks now, but she was like a locomotive on train. It has rained each time we have gone, and there has been a huge giant rainbow, each time we hit the bridge. A sign perhaps, peradventure, per chance? Railway termini are our gates to the glorious and the unknown. Through them we pass out into adventure and sunshine, to them, alas! we return. E. M. Forster Moi and the intrepid Miss Lucy p
