The mattress tail continues, calls to the public works went unheeded as it was Friday and the worker bees of the city ready for their Friday afternoon which did not include picking up the mattress now. It is now wet and vomiting its contents on to the street. The TV which worked now shattered as a homeless man cut the cord, literally and turned it on its side. I did clean up the glass. The neighbors are now adding to the sidewalk sale with their own devices. Not understanding they must call, write and place correctly before pick up. I think I will just forward the last diatribe and this to her majesty the mayor of the big little city.
As it was Friday, guests arrived!! Some with the right of return, not commenting on the huge green monstrous thing, nor on my cooking either. I had in preparation, made a lemon load, and apple rhubarb cake, and when not polished off, ate it for dinner after a long day of cleaning. Pre game warm up included grocery shopping, cream was on sale! and some vacuuming. But I digress.
Then to my astonishment, I had to admit guests with confirmed reservations I knew nothing about. Two on two different days in two different rooms. The reservation system telling them but not me they had rooms. One lad tall he was 6’1 red hair, blue eyed wonder showed me his phone, while I stood there in disbelieving. However he was shown as he came thru an expensive reservation system, the room he wanted. As there was a call from a gentleman, 6’4 from Cameroon here for a competition.
The former was applying to be a Rhodes Scholar, I immediately took him to the picture of my Road scholar while he looked on disbelieving. He had a dinner date with 7 former Scholars at the hotel down the street and the following morning individually with them again. The unfortunate part of the running of the bed and breakfast is you don’t get to hear the end of the story. I assured him before that this was a house of magic and coincidence, and I demanded a post card from Oxford when he arrived next year for the fall semester. Stay tuned.
The second of the unexpected, arrived later in the week, after my swordplay people, not the kind barrier kind had settled themselves in the living room. They had gone for Sushi to a new restaurant on the main street, so many new ones I had not been in it and have to rely their review to others. Apparently the door bell rang, I had not heard it as I was asleep, having had to get up earlier in the day to make a baked omelet. Still coughing and the like as well. However these guests with a reservation I knew nothing about were resistant to not having a room. They kept calling. I knowing nothing, no comments please, I got up to unplug the phone and there they were, in the foyer, with the other guests of the fencing kind being let inn. I of course got to be incoherent, greeted them in the traditional PINK house coat. Many of the ancient of readers will recognize the tradition. Thus added to this list of life, the emergency edition, all this was calling, writing, reservation systems, search engines, web hosts and the telephone company. With more to come I am sure, as a reservation system response was it is up to the guest to let you know when they are coming, and not system itself.
We stumbled thru the cleaning and a new tradition. Car jockey. Readers are aware, that when winter hits I have to move cars around in the driveway which can hold up to seven. NOW I have added driving instructor to the list, as I take my Syrian neighbor out and about on the streets. The hijab on her head, means that others understand that she is learning and we only had one individual honk as they could not see her her head scarf from behind. Sunday is a good day to this as the roads are not full of rage. We awoke to a major cancellation of incoming guests and another week planned of fun and games.
