Just as you think you are going into one direction, with thoughts of “okay here we go”, another comes straight back at you. Yes indeed, today we are having temperatures of 10 and fog. Tulip planting time. The boxes sitting for a while now on the kitchen table. The least will be to get the rake out and look at it.

I had some Americans arrive at the door, who had a reservation, on their way to a food and film festival in another province. Their first dictum was they were not voting for the Playing card. In bridge would that be two no trump? I told them to vote, just vote, as the whole world was watching. They had brought a copper wire hose to replace for their heating system. Always good to get replacement parts where ever you go, I think. A little research, another first in running the bed and breakfast. OFF they went to get it across town. Their dinner was at a 5 star restaurant around the corner which I did not know existed as such. It used to be a soup and sandwich place in a museum. Left of center place that has been upgraded.

They too were upgraded here at the old bnb. UP they climbed, to the third floor baggage in hand, andwere put on the third floor out of the way. The most important thing after my flu shot induced memory lapses was I did manage to get the hot water turned on. Why the ascent to the third floor my inquiring readers want to know? I have some refugees here.

Originally from Syria via an escape route, which could be Jordan, then Vancouver. In other words, they are not straight off the boat, or in this modern age, the plane. They arrived with the boatloads dropped off by the federal government, 500 of them last winter. However the Feds in their infinite wisdom put one brother on side of the country and one on this side. So this re-arrived little family left to seek their fortune on the other side of the country a while ago. To get back someone paid for the plane tickets. They are here for a little bit until they rearrange themselves here, with apt and English lessons. Just how did they come to arrive on my door.

My neighbors who have lived across the street, since their arrival in the snow and cold, last February (they say that “snow is warm”, because of it) and with whom I am learning all things Arabic, asked if they could stay here. So ensconced last night, at 10 pm was another family with four young children and their parents. Young children chaos is I have to say multinational. They are here for a while, as they resettle back in the big little city.

Earlier in the day, I coughed, snorted and blew my way out of bed, another ascent, this time in health we hope, and returned to the list of life Perchance, about or possibly, three things crossed off, bank temperatures, and most importantly, Lucy P got a walk by the river. She, the old thing, took off, chasing a crow, in full dog commission and emitting geriatric barks at the same time, shorter periods of time that when she and I were younger, but none the less an impressive display of doggedness. The levels of goose poop ingested were impressive as well.

So off we go for another day of fun and adventure. I must feed the multitudes, and I am sure the minute the french toast hits the griddle there will be little children everywhere. Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality. Nikos Kazantzakis, Lucy and Moi
