Therefore and THUS, we set off in our quest to bring you the daily diatribe. We will admit to, it has been intermittent these last weeks. The season of tourism and summer are ended (today, at midday I was official informed by my cousin in the country) Both formally concluded, like dinner. My repast was purchased at the grocery store after boot camp.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised, tired beyond belief, and esurient, a lethal combination, in a grocery store of all places. All the nutritional pundits proclaim one is not to that. I have to say the Boston cream filled minis were outstanding, the chocolate topping, melted like soup, the cream inside almost cooked, the fact of the matter was, the cashier placed them on top of the RED-HOT and sizzling chicken pot pie. (How the plastic container did not melt is beyond me, but much is these days.) The CPP is made fresh daily at the store just a kilometer away.We did acquire, as well, on sale ! extra large eggs that look suspiciously like regular large eggs. They were purchased anyway, without a guest on the calendar until the weekend. WHY? the sale of the dubious sized was to expire, just like this writer. We impulse bought other items of distinction and noted that the Christmas fruit cake items were displayed.
We have been blundering around, or not. Yesterday we did not take La Tomato out of the drive as it would have been dangerous to do so. No amount of caffeine could keep us upright and doing anything. We managed to walk the dog around in circles, twice and not far. She and I that is we were agreed on that point. I will admit to one small wash of towels left over from the BBC journalist who stayed over two nights.
Prior to all the nothingness, there were two rooms. Tidied up them the day before. The BBC journalist writing a book on Aboriginal women’s murder. ( It will become a Brobdingnagian hit as it has a British accent mark my words.) The murderer originally was born and resided in the area, and is currently ensconced in a jail in Winterpeg She was OFF ! This after two days of investigative journalism with help from my Uncle John to track down a police officer retired 30 years ago, to have dinner with some screen writers. She has a film deal on a book she has not written yet. Oh the luck. I solder on, writing and scribbling the going on of the minutia here at the bed and breakfast, but again wandered away from the topic.
The fortuity, as this is a house of coincidence and magic, was I had this couple inn here, whom, or who, were dog people, owning a kennel in Scotland Ontario, confusing I know, but stay tuned. He was here working in the area of agriculture and they were on their way eventually to a convention, of feed for animals down the road a bit in the picturesque village of St Andrews. I was determined to find a coincidence. Being a big city girl, or was, possibly still am, on all those topics, especially after the Boston minis. I asked as is my way, if they knew, a country doctor of the big animal variety. No, they pondered.
Breakfast at 7 a.m: was the request, and the night before baking of banana breads, the first batch of homemade apple sauce of the autumn was fired up. I was not worried operatically as they would be gone or so they said by 7;30. That was not to happen. They were ticketed, as they parked across the street, after being instructed to park on this side, not that.
The reason for lateness and in walks a gentleman, who after a game of “who is your daddy”, is from the area, confirmed by the country cousin aforementioned, went to school with but has not seen recently, the large animal vet, I whom I know, but here is the kicker, the gentleman and he seemed to be, he also knew and rode in my uncles boat when he was a young lad. Small world and six degrees of separation. The women, did not leave until well after lunch both being from the United Kingdom. The only thing that is.
“Bend words. Stretch them, squash them, mash them up, fold them. Turn them over or swing them upside down. Make up new words. Leave a place for the strange and downright impossible ones. Use ancient words. Hold on to the gangly, silly, slippy, truthful, dangerous, out-of-fashion ones. Bend words and bend the world.” Kyo Maclear
