The holidaymakers have gathered up their leisure time, and gone home. Cancellations are coming in, as directions therefore plans change. The white vacuous pages of the reservation book loom large. With a flick of the stick, it was done. Summertime, done and dusted, and not just dusted. β€œAnd then some.” my kind and gentle readers would say,” and then some.”

This however does not mean we are at the sitting around eating bonbons stage just yet. No, we hauled out the lawnmower and broke it. Before we did that, note we had not sheared the lawn since the last rainstorm, WEEKS it has been. It appeared to moi, that it was in fact growing tardily, lots of weeds and brown patches, I opined. The back end had fallen off, the work not finished, by any stretch, there were three huge green bags to haul to the side of the road on the next second T day of the week.

Also completed, scrubbing floors, unwittingly, as spaghetti and kibble were strewn about the kitchen floor. A veritable mess, as it slipped thru my fingers, all her vitamins and minerals mixed in tomato sauce. The colour and the smell aided and abetted by salmon oil, glucosomine with green lipid muscle. Therefore, because the bucket was out, all the washable horizontal surfaces in the house, got a sluice. Lucy just sat there and watched me work. SO? Inquiring minds want to know.

Lucy P being very mannerly, keeping an eye on me, as I gathered up the spilled kibble and her favorite thing on earth, spaghetti. Which was actually macaroni, purchased for mom to eat, but we did not have time to, to put it back in her bowl. Not assisting in the least. Virtually all Canis familiaris would have at least aided in the pre-wash. ( She does do that with the dishes I must admit.) No, Miss Lucy P, sat there, hips akimbo, as I went under the table. Squatting ,for long periods of time, which I can do, thank you very much, and a duck walk or two, to pick at and up small bits of dog food mixed in. Owlishly she was watching as I wiped down the front of the counter. The when it was all back in the bowl, and presented to her, she ate it. I thought that we might have taken on rodents thru the night, but no, it was her majesty, up to finish off the bowl.

OFF we went to boot camp, to sit and watch, in the opening of the fall days. I would move, and she would too. She would be her usual two feet from me, making it impossible to say skip, as we were required to twice. First count to 85 then second to 95. I have to say my best efforts were pretty weak after the goings on of the day. She did run a hill, and would have again, if we had let her continue, might have done her in. I thought better of it and leashed her to a picnic table, which in her youth, she would have brought with her.

The Night before, Blake the Sheltie accompanied his owner, LP did not come on the run. I lost everyone, traveling on the road less traveled. Not let me assure you due to fastness on my part, as is my usual velocity thru life, but slow-moving and sluggish speed. In my mind I think I am a blue runner, but in reality not so much.

The list of life for the spring is still coming along and I am now threatening to clean the car, inside and out. We are making management decisions on what to do first, the windows, the tree or the tinkling toilet. The excitation, the exhilaration ! Stay tuned on that ~ I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude. Brene Brown, Moi and Miss Lp
